About Onglowing

Hi, I’m Nikki. Reproductive Biologist from Melbourne. Here to honour your birth, placenta, postpartum and overall mental health.
What Inspired Me to Set Up Onglowing
I grew up surrounded by strong, independent women. My mother taught me early on the importance of women-centered care and both she and my father have the entrepreneurial spirit. I pursued midwifery and reproductive sciences with enthusiasm, but life had a different plan: after multiple surgeries and overcoming stage 3 cancer, I couldn’t continue practicing clinically. Yet my passion to support mothers remains. That’s how Onglowing was born, a nurturing space combining evidence, empathy, and lived experience to support women through postpartum transitions. My dream is to reshape how postpartum care is understood so it’s not an afterthought, but a celebrated and supported life stage.
The Problem: Redressing Centuries of Male-Focused Research
Medical research has historically centered on men, often neglecting female-specific experiences and health needs. This male-centric bias has left gaps in understanding women’s bodies, especially during pregnancy and postpartum, and has contributed to inadequate mental health care for new mothers.
Maternal mental health is particularly overlooked: issues like postpartum depression and anxiety affect a significant portion of mothers, yet research and resources remain limited and unevenly distributed.
“Thrive After Pregnancy”
At Onglowing, my mission is clear—to bridge the mental health gap for mothers seeking empowerment during postpartum. Through research-backed support, compassionate care, and accessible education, I aim to help mums not just recover, but truly thrive after pregnancy—reflecting my personal motto: “Thrive After Pregnancy.”
I began modestly, using my disability allowance, I bought one supply at a time until I could encapsulate placentas professionally. Though the idea raised some eyebrows, I trust both science and intuition. Slowly, positive responses from mothers who felt supported and renewed helped Onglowing grow into what it is today.
The lab is based at home, so I can be near family while building community. My sisters and mother have been there since day one; they trained as placenta encapsulation observers and remain core to my work. This isn’t just a business; it’s a family legacy of care, compassion, and empowerment.
Why It Matters to Me
I know the emotional isolation, overwhelm, and longing for connection that can come after childbirth. I’ve been through dark places myself. That’s why everything, from each package processed to every conversation and educational piece, is infused with understanding, kindness, and a belief in the possibility of healing.
